The Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 goes quiet to serve in the army

The Chevrolet Silverado has undergone several modifications to become a military vehicle intended for defence, featuring new electric motors.

The Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 is a pick-up that enjoys considerable success in the American market. It is no secret that this type of work vehicle is very popular in the United States and that these trucks are powerful and highly functional. This model has been earmarked for incorporation into the United States Army, but to do so it has had to undergo some modifications.

These changes have focused on the model’s engine setup, since many of the vehicle’s technical features have been kept in the military version of the pick-up. At any dealership, the Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 can be bought with a 2.8-litre Duramax engine, made by GM itself.

However, the military version of the truck will feature two electric motors that will support the main engine. With these, it will be able to move stealthily in situations where silent movement is required. This will allow the Silverado to travel without drawing attention at certain moments when it must not be detected.

These electric motors will be powered by 12-module batteries, which will provide sufficient range to be used for a limited period of time, but enough to go unnoticed in those circumstances. For now, the range these batteries will offer has not been made public, but it is expected to be sufficient for them to fulfil their function without compromising the vehicle’s normal use.

As for the technological equipment, this military version will retain features such as rollover protection, anti-lock brakes, stability control and a 360º camera. For now, it is known that it will be offered to the United States Army in two-, four- and six-seat versions. It may be used on reconnaissance missions, defence against unmanned vehicles, casualty evacuation and other military functions.
