The Chinese brand Zotye is getting ready to arrive in the United States. Will it also come to Europe?

The Chinese brand wants to sell this compact SUV model in the United States market as part of its plan to sell its cars there.

Chinese brands are becoming increasingly active, and it is more and more likely that they will leave their main market, their home country, to reach other countries. The models many of them are launching are designed not only for Chinese buyers but also with Western buyers in mind. Zotye is one of these brands, and it has presented an SUV in the form of a concept car, the Zotye T600.

This model is set to be the first to reach the United States market, and when it enters production, at the end of 2020 or the beginning of 2021, it will be the car that opens the doors of the US market to the Chinese brand. To do so, and according to the company itself, they have designed this compact SUV to offer all the technology needed to make it a safe, easy-to-drive car with everything an American driver wants in their car.

Although we do not have much more information about this model at the moment, the model was shown at the Shanghai Motor Show with a 2.0-litre turbocharged GDI engine, of its own design, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. This does not mean it will be the engine that arrives in the American market, but there is also talk of a 1.6-litre petrol engine, which could be paired with a six-speed manual gearbox.

To begin its landing in the United States, Zotye has started talks to open 19 dealerships in the country. In parallel, it has spoken with other dealers, so it could add around 300 sales points across the country. The manufacturer wants to start slowly, entering this new market with this compact SUV, although the Zotye T600 will soon have company, with the addition of a mid-size crossover and a saloon.

And Europe? It is too early to know, and we will have to wait a little to see whether the desire to reach the United States will also lead them to look towards Europe to position themselves. I suppose everything will depend on the success of this first first contact with American buyers. For now, we have seen the SUV and can get an idea. What do you think?
