The Dacia Stepway is breaking away from the Sandero and will become a model in its own right

The Dacia Sandero has been the car of choice for many European drivers for several years. It has been the best-selling car for years, and part of that success has been its very competitive price for the options it offers. The best-selling version of the model has been the Sandero Stepway, which has a crossover body that buyers really want. But now, with the arrival of the new Duster, which is bigger than previous versions, Dacia believes it is time to give the Stepway its own identity.

So, the next generation of the Sandero will drop the Stepway variant, which will become a model in its own right. This does not surprise us. For some time now, both variants have shown quite a few differences between them, as they have been moving apart to offer a different image and different characteristics.

A different model, but with the Sandero spirit

The new Dacia Stepway will continue to use the CMF-B platform that the Sandero uses. It will also share engines and equipment with the model it is based on, but it will offer a different body, so there is no confusion. It is expected to measure 4.10 metres in length, which will place it against models such as the Nissan Juke, the Opel Mokka and other similar models that are quite successful.

As for electric motorisation, nothing has been confirmed, but it is worth remembering that this platform has an electrified version, the CMF-BEV, so the brand may reserve the option of offering an electric version of each of these models.

According to the brand, Dacia has access to the technology needed to propose a vehicle with different drive types, both with a combustion engine and with an electric motor. The perfect candidate to start offering ICE and electrified versions is the Sandero and, in turn, the Stepway. So we will have to wait until 2028, when the fourth generation of the Sandero arrives and the Stepway debuts as an independent model, to learn about all these novelties.
