The DeLorean DMC-12 EV shown at CES
The electric DeLorean, the DMC-12 EV, has been officially shown at CES in Las Vegas

CES in Las Vegas has little to do with cars, but it has a lot to do with the legend that grew around it through the time-travel trips of the Back to the Future films, so the CES itself has turned out to be the right event for DeLorean Motor Company to show its electric DeLorean, wrapped in neon lights, in the best style of the films that made it famous.
Now we know some more particulars about this DeLorean. It produces 260 hp and a top speed of 200 km/h. It is not a paragon of performance, but the goal was reached: bringing the DeLorean back to life through electricity, just as Doctor Emmett Brown would have done.
Despite how spectacular the electric motors are, and although this is good news for the followers of the few existing DeLoreans, a price of $100,000 has been announced if the vehicle were sold on the market. It is a bit high, but frankly we could not expect less: they need to make money as fast as possible, on a design that is many years old and that is something of a bet on a uncertain outcome for its success.
I was struck by how the grille moves aside to make room for the charger plug. Didn’t they have a somewhat more elegant way to recharge?
