The designers of the Seat Ibiza celebrate its 30th anniversary

In 1984 the first Seat Ibiza went on sale, and that is why the Spanish brand wants to celebrate it in style. We have already seen several events around this legendary model, and every month there is something more to highlight this important anniversary. Among them, a meeting of the four designers who have shaped the car’s look throughout its existence.
,
Giugiaro, de Silva, Donckerwolke and Mesonero are the designers who have styled this car across the different generations we have enjoyed over these last few years. The first Ibiza was the work of Giugiaro, who developed the revolutionary model on his drawing board a few years before the final launch.
For the Italian, the car’s success lay in “the proportions of the car, the simplicity of its architecture and its elegant and sporty look at the same time”, something that apparently was not found in any other model of the brand. The personality stamped on this model helped future models carry this image into their own developments.

The second generation of the Seat Ibiza also had the pen of this designer, who rounded off the shapes, in addition to incorporating the technological advances that emerged during those years. The third generation of the Ibiza arrived in 2002, under Walter de Silva, who is today the Design Director of the Grupo Volkswagen.
The year 2008 saw the arrival of the fourth generation, with the involvement of Luc Donckerwolke, Design Director of Seat at that time. For its renewal, he took into account the brand’s values and what had been conveyed over the years through the previous designs. That is, elegance but also boldness, rebelliousness and dynamism, which is what a young driver seeks.
Finally, the current Design Director of Seat, Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos, commented that he himself had owned a Seat Ibiza as his first car, at the age of 18. That car impressed him, and he is the one who was in charge of the design of the Seat Ibiza 30th Anniversary, which we were able to see this summer.
The meeting of the four designers took place to celebrate the anniversary of the Seat Ibiza, and those attending were able to enjoy first-hand the anecdotes and stories that led to the creation of a model that has been part of the recent history of our country.
