The DS 7 Crossback Élysée becomes Emmanuel Macron's new car

Emmanuel Macron has travelled aboard this new car, which has joined the presidential fleet of the French Republic at an official event.

Cars assigned to presidents and prime ministers are usually vehicles with a certain history within the country. At least, this is the case in countries like France, which uses vehicles from its major French brands for its leaders. In Emmanuel Macron’s case, a new car has just joined the presidential fleet: a DS 7 Crossback Élysée modified to meet VIP transport duties.

This version is based on the DS 7 Crossback E-Tense 300. It measures 4,790 millimetres in length, and its wheelbase has been modified, increased by 200 millimetres to adjust the interior space and accommodate other added elements. Of course, this vehicle has received armour plating to guarantee the safety of the French president.

Distinctive elements

But armour plating is not the only addition that sets it apart from other vehicles. It has been fitted with emergency lights to make it more visible and identify it as an official vehicle. In addition, the bodywork has been painted in Ink Blue, which gives it a serious, official touch. At the front it has a flag holder to proudly display the French flag.

The interior of this type of vehicle is important, so the rear has been equipped with two individual seats that adjust electrically. Between the two seats is a console that separates them. It houses a wireless phone charger and the controls for heating and ventilating the rear seats.

The rear also features an entertainment system and the RF badge.

Engine and equipment

The engine in this version is the same plug-in hybrid powertrain as the standard version. It consists of a PureTech combustion engine working alongside two electric motors, which together produce 300 CV and a maximum torque of 520 Nm. The battery is 13.2 kWh and, in the standard model, offers a range of 58 kilometres in electric mode.

As the engine remains unchanged, the added weight from the armour plating and the extended length will have a negative effect on performance. However, since it is a vehicle for short journeys and institutional events, its performance is more than sufficient for its purpose.

The new presidential DS 7 Crossback Élysée made its debut on 11 November, at the ceremonies commemorating the Armistice of 1918, which marked the end of the First World War.
