The Fiat 500 passes the North American crash test with the highest score

There is an old theory in North America that the bigger the car you drive, the safer the driver will be in the event of an accident. For this reason, over the years European cars were held in rather low regard by the American public.

However, the little Fiat 500 has arrived, and Marchionne has been determined to impose it in such a difficult market. Among the requirements to be sold on that side of the pond, it has to pass the demanding crash tests of the IIHS. And it has passed them with flying colours.

Even so, Fiat had to make some concessions for the North American IIHS to award the 500 the highest score. One of them was the change to the structure of the seats, which had earned the previous version of the 500, built before July 2011, a much lower rating for occupant protection.

The rating obtained matches that of the Ford Fiesta, always speaking of the frontal offset and rear-end crash tests used in the US.
