Commercial vehicles are undoubtedly the ones accelerating fastest towards full electrification, as we see more and more frequently that brands offering this range of vehicles announce a new addition. Fiat presented the electric version of its star commercial vehicle last summer, the e-Ducato, its first fully electric model, which now begins its commercialisation in Spain.

To make the transition to the new e-Ducato much easier for Fiat customers, the brand offers Van versions (what we know as closed vans), with a load capacity ranging from 10 to 17 m3, chassis-cab models in four different lengths so they can be adapted to the needs of each professional, and a version for passenger transport, although these will arrive later, on a date yet to be determined.

The new Fiat e-Ducato will be equipped with an 90 kW electric motor, which translates into a power output of 122 CV with a top speed limited to 100 km/h. Depending on each customer’s needs, they can choose between a battery with a capacity of 47 kWh or another of 79 kWh, which will provide a range of 235 km or 370 km respectively according to the WLTP City urban test cycle, making it the ideal vehicle for work and deliveries in urban environments, where it will move like a fish in water.

Once the battery of the Fiat e-Ducato is depleted, the brand offers three different types of AC chargers: the 6.7 kW and 11 kW chargers will be available from the outset, while the 22 kW charger will follow later, with no date confirmed yet. A fast DC charger of 50 kWh will also be available, allowing the battery to reach 80% of its capacity in an hour and a half. It is worth noting that Fiat will offer an 8-year or 160,000 km warranty for the 47 kWh battery and, for the 79 kWh battery, a 10-year or 220,000 km warranty.

On the Spanish market, the new Fiat e-Ducato starts at a price of 58,810 euros for the Van version with medium wheelbase (10 m3 of load capacity) and the 47 kWh battery, while the chassis-cab version, also with medium wheelbase and the 47 kWh battery, starts from 58,310 euros. In addition, during the launch phase Fiat will include five years of routine maintenance and five years of warranty. As we can see, the outlay is significant, but everything will depend on the mileage driven, since according to Fiat’s studies the e-Ducato represents a fuel saving of 15,000 euros compared with the diesel version over 150,000 km, plus 40% lower maintenance costs compared with the diesel version of similar size.
