Fisker Ocean Electric Cars SUV
The Fisker Ocean has a catch: its 'Launch Control' can only be used 500 times
This electric SUV uses this acceleration system that launches it to high speed in a very short time, but the brand limits its use to 500 times. Why?

The acceleration capability of electric cars is very appealing, since they deliver full torque from the very first moment. That is why, when a Boost function is added, which increases the acceleration power, the result is even more impressive. This feature is present in many electric models, to give an extra touch to the driving experience. But if we look at the Fisker Ocean, it has a particularity.
A YouTuber who has been able to drive the car realized that the Launch Control fitted to this electric model is limited in its use. Although it is available for the driver to use, there is a limit on the number of times it can be activated: only 500 times.

The Fisker Ocean is an electric SUV that got off to a somewhat troubled start. Although around 40,000 sales were expected during 2023, only 10,000 units were produced. For those who have been able to drive the car, it is not a vehicle with bad marks, although there are also negative opinions. Partly because of the usage limit of the Launch Control mode.
This system allows acceleration to be more powerful and to reach a high speed in very little time. But in the case of the Ocean, this mode can only be used 500 times. For what reason?
The media outlet Carscoops contacted the company, which gave a fairly convincing answer. According to statements from Fisker, this is the maximum number of times the electric drivetrain can withstand without suffering significant wear. Even so, it is “a conservative figure“, because no vehicle has been tested having exceeded that number of accelerations.
What is true is that, although that limit may seem low, in normal conditions no Ocean user will need to use even half of those launches. It is not a car designed for the track, but for everyday use, where this feature is not usually very necessary. To use Launch Control you need a long straight stretch with little or no traffic, to avoid risks. Not to mention, of course, the speed limits of each road.
So although there is a usage limitation, practically no user of the car will need to use this instant acceleration system so many times, so we can rest easy and not see this as a real restriction.
