The Ford E-Transit becomes a very practical and efficient ambulance
The Ford E-Transit stands out as an electric van, but it also has a lot to offer as an emergency vehicle, such as ambulances, in London and Spain.

Electric vehicles were not very well integrated into emergency services until very recently. The reason was that there was no guarantee they had the precise functionality needed to fulfil the service they were required to provide. This has been changing, and we now have electric vehicles serving in security forces and emergency services. There are even electric ambulances, and they are achieving very good results wherever they are in operation.
In Spain there are three companies dedicated to working on the Ford E-Transit to convert it into a practical and functional electric ambulance. One of them is based in Ourense, and the other two are in Valencia. The chassis and bodywork provide the necessary solutions for it to fulfil this role and other similar ones.

The space it offers and the versatility of its conversion capabilities make it a very practical ambulance. Another of its advantages is the comfort and quiet operation, which allows passengers to travel without engine noise or the vibrations it produces. As for acceleration, it is smooth and instantaneous, so the full power is available immediately.

To show how the Ford E-Transit works as an ambulance, Ford has shown how these vehicles operate in a city as large and complex as London. In this case, they were converted with the help of the Special Vehicles Division of Ford Pro. London’s electric ambulances offer the same service as diesel ambulances, but without emitting polluting gases, which is quite important in the congested streets of the British capital.
These electric ambulances have joined the city’s service thanks to the Carbon Neutrality Plan, which aims to reach net zero emissions by 2040. With these ambulances supplied by Ford, fuel consumption has been reduced by 75% compared with their diesel equivalents.
In the video you can see how these ambulances are used, and how they fulfil the service just like their diesel-engined equivalents across several services. According to the professionals, their battery pack and functionality are very good, since they say they rarely use even 50% of the battery capacity during a 12-hour shift.
