Ford Leaf Sedans Electric Cars Industry
The Ford Focus Electric production has begun today
Production of the first units of the Ford Focus Electric has started today. It is the electric car set to become a serious rival to the Nissan Leaf.

Production of the Ford Focus Electric began today at the Michigan plant, one of the main facilities of the blue oval. Reservations opened on November 2, when we learned the final price and the two colour options it will offer, along with the single interior option.
But what really matters for Ford is that the Focus Electric can take far more than a slice of the pie from the Nissan Leaf. Its launch in the US opens the door for this Focus to be a sales success (if the public adopts it quickly), since it will be able to go head to head against a Japanese car in the same segment on equal terms, something that has not happened in the local North American market for many years.
Comparisons with the Leaf are almost unavoidable. In this regard, the people at Ford have been very forthcoming in highlighting its advantages over its Japanese rival. The Focus Electric’s range is said to be double that of the Leaf, and when connected to a 240-volt plug the Focus takes half the time (three hours) that the Leaf does to recharge its batteries.
We are still far from ideal figures for charging and range, but there is no doubt that the competition between the Leaf and this Focus will be more than interesting. Probably next month or in February we will already have a clearer picture of whether Ford will ultimately pose a threat to Nissan with its electric Focus, or not.
