The Ford GT mk II is the track-focused evolution of the production sports car

The Ford GT mk II is a limited and exclusive edition of the most exciting Ford of all time

We knew it, but we didn’t expect it. We knew that Ford would bring a novelty to the Festival of Speed at Goodwood, an evolution related to the Ford GT, but not that it would be a track-only version of the production car, freed from all the legal constraints that come with homologating cars for road use.

Giving the engineers free rein allows the creation of cars as special as this Ford GT mk II, the track adaptation of the brand-new road-legal Ford GT.

Using the standard chassis and engine as a starting point, the technical team of engineers from Ford Performance and Multimatic, the company tasked with bringing the Ford GT and the new Ford GT mk II to life, have joined forces to tighten every possible bolt and give the car, which rolls off the production line at the Canadian facilities, an extra dose of radicalism.

To do this, drawing on the experience and technology developed for the World Endurance Championship (WEC) and the American IMSA series, competitions in which Ford takes part through the specialist tuner Chip Ganassi Racing, they have put everything on the grill to present the most powerful Ford GT in the world.

700 CV for a track-only Ford GT

And it is that, despite using the same 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6 engine, which produces 500 CV in the cars competing under the GT3 regulations of their respective championships, compared with the 640 CV homologated for the road car, this Ford GT mk II sets its final output at 700 CV.

But, beyond the significant power increase over the production car, the inclusion of components derived from competition allows track performance that combines the best of both worlds.

For example, the aerodynamic kit increases the downforce generated by its air intake by up to 400 percent, and the replacement of the adjustable rear wing with a fixed one, along with the variable ride-height adjustment of the suspension, which allows the road car to be raised to clear all kinds of obstacles such as speed bumps, ramps or garage entrances and exits, reduces the total weight by 90 kg.

The 19-inch competition wheels, specifically designed, are fitted with high-performance Michelin Pilot Sport GT tyres, which ensure the management of this car’s mechanical power.

A car that transmits its power from the engine to the wheels through the dual-clutch 7-speed gearbox fitted as standard, but calibrated for exclusive, dedicated track use.

45 units of the Ford GT mk II at a multi-million price

Unlike the road car, the track car will go on sale without conditions and through Multimatic. The Ford GT is delivered selectively to certain customers interested in it; in fact, due to demand, Ford increased the number of units it had initially planned to build from 1,000, thus offering more chances to own one of the 1,350 units that will be built in total.

For its part, Multimatic will not carry out a prior selection process; instead, by paying the slightly more than one million euros required, price of the Ford GT mk II, one of the 45 units to be manufactured of these new cars for track days can be acquired.
