The Generation Z already has its car: the Toyota Ubox prototype

Labels are important when it comes to classifying things and people. After the Millennials, the next generation has now arrived. Although its name reminds us a little too much of certain fashionable series and films, it has nothing to do with what you may be thinking. The members of Generation Z are those born in the 1990s and the early years of the 21st century, and for them the Toyota Ubox has been created.
This prototype of Toyota was developed in the United States and built by young people of precisely that age, between 15 and 25 years old. It is the result of a collaboration between Clemson University in South Carolina and the Japanese brand. It was designed and built by a group of students from that institution as part of a programme for designing and manufacturing this type of vehicle.
Of course, it is a 100% electric vehicle, since this is expected to be the type of energy source that will be used by the majority within a few years. With projects like this, the university’s developers want to offer young people, who will soon be old enough to drive a reliable vehicle, with good range and the chance to stand out thanks to its bold design.

The exterior is what stands out most about the Ubox, a car that certainly surprises at first sight. The interior has also been designed with maximum space in mind, so it can be reconfigured thanks to its modular design, allowing users to work and make the most of the prototype’s connectivity technologies. Everything is conceived for an urban, modern lifestyle, especially for making the most of travel time to university.
The battery can be used to charge several electronic devices, thanks to several 110 V sockets located both outside and inside the vehicle. In addition, part of its bodywork can be modified with elements printed on a 3D printer. Of course, this car will not go into production, but it can serve as a good test bed for the company’s future electric models.
