The Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition has sold out before its launch
Enthusiasts of sporty compacts are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the Honda Civic Type R, so much so that it has already sold out before its launch
Exactly one month ago we presented the Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition, a tuned version representing the ultimate expression of performance in a compact format. The Japanese model has become the most radical model in its segment, although it seems that is not enough for the brand.
According to its engineers, this Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition is the wildest version ever presented. Not only that, but we must remind you that it is almost a collector’s edition, since the Japanese will only bring 100 units to Europe.
Of course, selling all the units was not going to be difficult. In fact, dealerships in the United Kingdom decided to open a pre-sale, so they announced the price and waited for the first customers to arrive.
It turns out it was something like the tale of “The Pied Piper of Hamelin”, since once they announced the price of the Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition, they sold the 20 units the brand had allocated to them.
It’s not a bargain, since English customers will have to pay 39,995 pounds, that is, a little under 43,800 euros. Nevertheless, owning a unit of this limited version is a smart move, since its resale value will likely rise over the years.
If you are interested in getting hold of a Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition, you can relax, since the manufacturer will also send a batch of units to our country. However, it is not yet known how many there will be or what price they will carry.
The Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition demonstrates its exclusivity in every detail
Someone buying a special edition wants it to stand out from the rest, and this will be no problem in the Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition. To start with, the “Sunset Yellow” colour is specific to this version, so if you see a Honda Civic Type R in this powerful yellow, you know you are looking at a very special version.
The yellow is combined with several elements in gloss black, such as the roof, the exterior mirrors or the aggressive air intake on the bonnet. In addition, it will feature new forged alloy wheels signed by BBS in 20-inch dimensions, fitted with Michelin Cup 2 tyres.
Not only that, but it will also have optimised dampers and recalibrated steering to make it even more direct than the Honda Civic Type R we tested.
The cabin is the same as in the standard versions, which is no bad thing, since it is already spectacular in those. Therefore, we will have red sports seats and a steering wheel with the rim trimmed in Alcantara in the same red. In addition, we will have the manual gear knob in aluminium. However, we will find a plaque with the numbering of each unit.
A “bikini operation” to drive everyone crazy
The manufacturer has put the Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition on a strict diet, so it does not include features such as the infotainment system or the climate control. In addition, sound-insulating materials have been reduced in the doors, bumpers and dashboard.
However, the brand did not want to take away the “practicality” of this very radical version, so it has kept the rear seats. With all this diet, the Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition manages to weigh 47 kilos less than the standard versions.
Of course, under its bonnet we will have the furious 2.0 VTEC Turbo 320 CV engine capable of delivering 400 Nm of torque. Thanks to it, we will have an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds and a top speed of 272 km/h.
If you want a Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition, we recommend you keep your eyes open, since the dynamics are most likely to be the same in Spain as in the United Kingdom. This means there will be few units and they will sell out before they even reach the dealerships, so you will have to hurry if you want to take one home.
We will also have to keep an eye out to see whether the Type R family goes electric, since it seems that the Honda e could get a version that would turn it into a real toy with DGT Zero Emissions label.
