Hyundai Ioniq 5 Electric Cars SUV
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 will receive higher-capacity batteries and improved performance
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 will receive a higher-capacity battery and a noticeable performance improvement in the coming weeks.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 has just hit the market, and the manufacturer is already rolling out the first updates to the model. These new updates noticeably improve performance, so drivers have every reason to be pleased. As Hyundai has reported, the version with the larger battery will go even further. This means the Hyundai compact SUV will offer its users greater range.
Until now, if you wanted to get behind the wheel of the new Hyundai Ioniq 5, you could choose either a standard 58 kWh battery or the “large” one, with an appealing capacity of 72.6 kWh. From the coming weeks, the new battery will offer a capacity of 77.4 kWh. You may be thinking it is the same capacity offered by its sibling, the Kia EV6. You’re right, as the two models share many components.

This change is most likely due to the automotive group’s focus on simplification and cost savings. The truth is that the new Hyundai Ioniq 5 will benefit greatly from this increase in battery capacity, as its range will rise from roughly 423 kilometres to between 480 and 490 kilometres. Not a bad upgrade, is it?
Moreover, this increase in battery capacity will not only extend its range; it will also receive a software update that translates into improved performance of the Hyundai fully electric SUV. It is worth noting that this new update will also be received by units already sold. The brand itself has assured that it will be an “over-the-air” improvement. This means users will not have to book an appointment at their nearest dealership.

For now, the brand has not confirmed a date for introducing the new versions of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 in the European market. It is also unknown whether these updates will affect the starting price of the new Hyundai electric SUV. We will have to wait a few more weeks to learn all the details and prices of the updated Hyundai Ioniq 5. What do you think of this increase in capacity, performance and range of the fully electric SUV from the Hyundai/Kia group?
At the very least, users will benefit from these changes, although if you have already ordered the model, you may be in for a few disappointments. Bear in mind that you could possibly go to the dealership and order the version that will come with the higher battery capacity.
