The intelligent speed system will be mandatory for all vehicles in 2024
The intelligent speed system, ISA, will begin to be fitted to models approved from July 2022 onwards.

The intelligent speed system will be mandatory for all vehicles in 2024. The Directorate-General for Traffic (DGT) has published a tweet on its official profile to remind all drivers that all new cars in 2024 will have to be fitted as standard with the intelligent speed system, also known by its acronym ISA, Intelligent Speed Assistance.
It should be noted that this regulation has been brought forward to all new cars approved from July of this year, 2022. The aim of this measure is to keep reducing road accidents, since speeding is one of the most frequent causes of accidents. It should also be noted that this is a European regulation that “aims to put safer cars on the market”.
New vehicles approved in Europe from 2022 onwards and new vehicles sold from 2024 onwards must be fitted with the intelligent speed assistant #speed ISA, which warns the driver when they exceed the legal #speed limits.

Everything you need to know about the intelligent speed system, ISA
The intelligent speed system is switchable and does not limit speed permanently. The ISA uses traffic sign recognition to read the speed limits of the road we are travelling on. This information is passed to the adaptive cruise control so that the limit is not exceeded and the speed is adjusted automatically.
The intelligent speed system, as car manufacturers assure, has a margin of error of 10%. These errors may occur in complex situations such as roadworks, adverse weather or even parallel roads. The driver always has the final say, which is why the system can be switched off.

However, the intelligent speed system will not be the only safety assistant mandatory in 2024 or July 2022 for new approved models. The ADAS that cars will have to be fitted with in the near future are autonomous emergency braking, lane keeping assist, reversing detection, driver drowsiness and attention warning, seat belt reminder for rear seats, blind spot assist, tyre pressure monitoring and event data recorder, EDR, also known as the black box.
