The Italian State Police receives 850 Alfa Romeo Tonale units with a specific configuration
Alfa Romeo, part of the Stellantis group, delivers 850 units of its Tonale model with a special configuration for the Italian police headquarters

At an event held at the Centro Stile Alfa Romeo, in Turin, the Italian State Police received the first Alfa Romeo Tonale, which will join its vehicle fleet. Equipped with a specific configuration, 850 units of this “Panther” will be deployed in the first half of 2024, thus marking a milestone in the 2022 Consip tender won by Stellantis.
This historic alliance between Alfa Romeo and the Italian State Police, which dates back to the 1950s with the 1900 TI (Turismo Internazionale) and the 1900 TI Super, is now being renewed with the elegant and sporty Alfa Romeo Tonale. The vehicle, named “Panther”, will be deployed for territorial control, marking the arrival of a new era in the collaboration between the iconic Italian brand and Italy’s security forces.

Armoured configuration for the Tonale
This new Alfa Romeo Tonale model, equipped with a 1.5-litre petrol hybrid engine producing 163 CV of power and delivering 240 Nm, a 7-speed automatic gearbox, ballistic and shatterproof protection, and the advanced “Mercurio Extended” technology system, will be deployed in general service, prevention offices and public service at all police headquarters and main police stations starting next December. There is not much difference from its standard hybrid version, but its design changes considerably and the safety features are accentuated. That said, in my opinion the hybrid version is a better choice than the 130 CV petrol version.

In this model, the driving position, good visibility and a length of 4.5 m help it manoeuvre very well in everyday traffic. This model features several driving modes selected from the centre console: the first mode is “D” for Dynamic, but it also has Normal and “A” for All-Weather, so you can select whichever suits the circumstances best.
The history of the State Police and Alfa Romeo
The collaboration between Alfa Romeo and the State Police has been a constant over the decades, from iconic models such as the Giulia in the 1960s to the 21st-century Tonale. This modern “Panther” becomes one more model added to the illustrious list of Alfa Romeo vehicles that have patrolled Italian roads.

The State Police vehicle fleet has evolved alongside the Alfa Romeo range, from the classic models of the 1950s to the iconic Giulia, Alfetta, Alfasud, 33, 156, 159, and Giulietta of recent decades. The Tonale, with its advanced technology and captivating design, fits perfectly into this tradition of excellence.
With the launch of the Alfa Romeo Tonale, the Italian State Police continues to demonstrate its commitment to public safety and its preference for vehicles that combine performance, style and cutting-edge technology. The presence of these “Panthers” on Italian roads will be a symbol of the lasting collaboration between Alfa Romeo and the law enforcement forces, reinforcing the image of elegance and efficiency that both represent.
