The Jaecco 5, the small SUV from the Chinese brand, now has a price and it's a game-changer: from under 20,000 euros,

Jaecoo launches in Spain its new entry-level model, the Jaecoo 5, a small SUV available in petrol, hybrid and electric versions with a sensational price: from 19,990 euros, although watch out, you need to read the small print carefully.

Here it is, the Jaecoo 5, the small Chinese-brand SUV that is positioned below the successful Jaecoo 7 in size and price, and which, like its bigger sibling, is set to shake up the market by offering quality, generous standard equipment, three powertrain options to choose from and a reference price. And that’s where we’re going to start.

You can have a Jaecoo 5 with the 1.5 petrol engine with no hybridisation of any kind (C label) at a list price from 27,500 euros, while the hybrid variant, more powerful and with lower consumption and an ECO label, starts from 30,000 euros, although it won’t arrive until the end of the year. Above that sits the Jaecoo 5 EV with electric propulsion, starting from 35,500 euros.

The “from” price of the Jaecoo 5 with the current offer

What’s surprising is the launch offer from Omoda, which advertises a starting price for the petrol version from 19,990 euros, but with an asterisk. That’s 7,500 euros less than the list price. But… what does the small print say? Well, to take advantage of this offer you must finance the purchase, and a “trade-in discount” is also included here. So ask the dealership carefully not only about the financing conditions, but also about that trade-in discount, which may be conditional on handing over a specific car in exchange.

And what do you get for that price? A 4.38-metre-long SUV with an exterior and interior design clearly related to the Jaecoo 7, a more than decent finish quality, the same 1.6 TGDi petrol engine producing 145 CV and the DC7 7-speed automatic gearbox used by both the Jaecoo 7 and the Omoda 5, in Pure trim, which already comes with extensive standard equipment including a panoramic sunroof, a 13.2-inch multimedia screen, “human pet friendly” upholstery designed for pets, and a comprehensive package of driver assistance systems.

As a reference among the most affordable SUVs in this category, Dacia offers the Duster TCe with a 130 CV engine from 23,190 euros (before discounts), with a manual gearbox but with hybridisation and an ECO label. The Omoda 5 Pure TGDI with the same powertrain has the same list price, 27,500 euros, to which the corresponding current discounts must be applied.
