MG Motor doubles down on electrification with 13 new models over the next two years
The lack of electrified or new energy models has hurt MG Motor’s results in some markets, such as China. A situation the company now wants to remedy.
MG Motor, the British-origin brand under the control of Chinese giant SAIC, has put forward an ambitious strategy aimed at establishing itself in the global electrified vehicle market. Its plans involve launching 13 new models, within the category known as “New Energy,” over the next two years.
MG thus bets on a broad range that will include fully electric models, plug-in hybrids and extended-range electric vehicles. To carry out this initiative, the company will invest around 10 billion yuan, roughly 1.2 billion euros, in developing these technologies.

The first of these thirteen models is already on the road. The new MG4 sets the course the brand will follow in the immediate future, after pre-sales of this model began this very month of August. Its official launch is scheduled for today, August 29.
Europe is the main market for MG Motor
In Europe, MG has achieved notable success, with 153,100 units sold in the first half of 2025, despite the European Union’s imposition of heavy tariffs on the brand’s electric models imported from China. The company’s results in its home market have not, however, been as positive, with only 57,254 vehicles delivered between January and July 2025. According to some experts, one of the reasons for these divergent results when comparing the European and Chinese markets is the limited offer of electrified MG Motor models in the latter, where this type of vehicle is in greatest demand.
MG Motor’s foray into the new energy vehicle segment, however, will not be based solely on competing on price, as the brand’s head, Chen Cui, has already indicated. The company’s intention is to leverage the technologies and supply chains of SAIC, which has extensive experience in the sector, to gain an advantage.

SAIC collaborates on electric vehicle projects with brands such as Audi in China, through the AUDI brand, and with Huawei, through the Shangjie brand. In addition, SAIC’s subsidiary IM Motors recently entered the British market and presented an extended-range vehicle, as well as the L6 model, equipped with a solid-state battery, announced earlier last year.
With this strategy, MG seeks not only to strengthen its presence in Europe, but also to regain ground in China and expand globally, relying on innovation and diversification of its electrified vehicle lineup.
