The Leaf will no longer be alone: Nissan will unveil its new electric saloon, the Sylphy, in Beijing

Although for the moment it will only be sold in China, Nissan is going to expand its electric range with the Sylphy EV, a new compact four-seat saloon.

The recent announcement by Nissan a few days ago, revealing that ahead of the upcoming Beijing Motor Show it would unveil its new electric car, now has an image. So, on the 25th, when the doors of the show open in the Chinese capital, the new BEV variant of its compact Sylphy saloon will be on display at the Nissan stand, becoming the second battery-electric model in the brand’s range after the Leaf.

The Sylphy BEV is a compact-sized saloon aimed, for the time being, only at the Chinese market. We say for the time being because this saloon is part of the product offensive that the Japanese manufacturer is preparing on a global scale for all markets where electric vehicles are set to take off in the coming years, which could lead to its future sale in other markets not yet determined.

Compared with the rest of the Sylphy range, the new electric variant is clearly identified by its distinct logos and badges. It features a new front end that follows the design approach of the new Leaf, copying its grille. The bonnet has also been modified to position the battery charging port in the same place where the Leaf has it. The side profile is also altered with the adoption of new wheel designs adapted to electric mobility, whose particular shape and design help to increase the car’s range. In addition, new badges for both the variant and Nissan’s electric vehicle division appear in various parts of the car.

And although Nissan has not yet released any data on the model, according to reports in various media there will be an electric motor powered by batteries under the bonnet, delivering a maximum output of 80 kW (110 CV). The range expected for the Sylphy on a single battery charge would be between 200 and 250 km.

The Nissan Sylphy BEV is the first of the 6 new electric models that Nissan will add to its range in the coming years, four of which (including this new saloon) will complement Nissan’s own range, while the remaining two will join the Infiniti range, a brand that does not operate as a separate marque in Japan.
