The Lexus UX incorporates the new Nanoe™X air purification technology
Several Lexus models use this air purification system, which removes harmful elements from the cabin, including pollen and pathogens.

Manufacturers’ concern is not limited to polluting emissions. Ensuring that the driver and occupants are safe and comfortable while using the vehicle is also important. That is why, although it may seem like an overlooked matter, cabin air purification is something that takes up a great deal of time for brand engineers.
Lexus has just presented the Nanoe™X, a cabin air purification system that debuted in 2021 and is already installed in several models from the brand. Designed by Panasonic, this system improves the quality of the cabin air, prevents the spread of mould and eliminates pathogens such as bacteria and viruses.

A highly effective system
Nanoe™X works in a very simple way, yet it is very practical. It releases water molecules containing microscopic hydroxyl radicals, which float throughout the cabin. These radicals capture any particles floating in the air and can neutralise viruses, bacteria, pollen and other allergens.
They can also reduce unpleasant odours and prevent moisture from evaporating, so occupants’ skin and hair do not suffer from dehydration. Laboratory research has confirmed its effectiveness, showing that within one hour it neutralises 99% of the viruses and bacteria floating in the cabin and reduces the intensity of odours perceived inside it.
Although it had already been tested in several Lexus models, the new generation of this technology enhances its effects. It has increased the number of hydroxyl radical particles emitted up to tenfold: from 480 billion per second to 4.8 trillion. These hydroxyl radicals are used to purify the air in enclosed spaces, such as car cabins, but also in offices and public spaces.
Among the harmful and dangerous elements it captures are not only viruses and bacteria, but also the hazardous substances contained in PM2.5 particles. This makes the system especially practical and useful on urban journeys, where pollution is higher.
Purifying the cabin air is important because it prevents the spread of viruses and bacteria, and it also counteracts the effect of pollen, which is very helpful for allergy sufferers. It is a small technological advance that reinforces the effect of the air filters, so vehicle occupants can travel more comfortably and safely.
