The Maserati MC20 gets even closer: its testing never stops
Maserati continues forward with the development of the new MC20, a model they have used to pay tribute to one of the greatest legends: Stirling Moss.

It was a few months ago when the trident brand announced it would end production of the beloved Gran Turismo to make way for a new and necessary member. After seeing some not very revealing test mules, Maserati revealed the name this new creature would be given: MC20. As time went on and development progressed, we were able to learn more and more details about this long-awaited model, a model that once again sheds part of its mystery so we can learn a little more about it.
However, the Italian house has wanted to use the gestation of the MC20 to pay homage to one of the most iconic drivers of all time, Stirling Moss, who passed away on April 12. Maserati has never forgotten the Briton’s time in its ranks, where he was crowned champion at the 1956 Monaco Grand Prix F1 race on May 13 behind the wheel of the Maserati 250F.
With this new MC20, Maserati aims to revolutionize the brand’s status in every sense, as it intends to return to the world of competition. With this premise, it makes even more sense for the Italian house to pay tribute to Moss, one of the most transcendent drivers not only in the history of motorsport, but also in that of the Maserati itself.

For now, the Italian house maintains a deafening silence regarding the new MC20, a model that promises to be quite a surprise. Maserati has confirmed that the engine’s development has been carried out entirely by its own team of engineers without the involvement of any other brand and, although it has not officially released any data, we know its position will be central.
This is already a sign that the Maserati MC20’s stance in the crowded and complicated segment it belongs to is that of a pure and hardcore sports car, not a GT like its predecessor. In this way, we could expect a V8 engine under its skin, backed by an electric system capable of raising total output to 500 CV.

Despite the advanced state of development of these MC20 prototypes, Maserati has not yet confirmed any launch date. Given the context we are living through, it is even harder to predict a date with precision, but we hope the debut of this new offshoot of the trident house takes place before this summer ends.
