Mercedes-Benz is preparing to unveil the new Mercedes-Benz GLB this summer, and now spy photographers have caught one of its high-performance versions. Southern Europe has witnessed the testing of the Mercedes-AMG GLB 45 2021. The German model features a flat grille flanked by light units similar to those used on the concept of the Mercedes-Benz GLB, which is close to production.

The profile of the performance crossover from the star brand is not especially sporty, but the model has been fitted with a sport suspension that appears to lower its centre of gravity. In addition, AMG-badged wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 3 tyres can also be seen.

The new Mercedes-AMG GLB 45 has a very slim rear lighting system. It is accompanied by a sporty rear diffuser. It also features an exhaust system with four outlets, which sets it apart from the less powerful model: the Mercedes-AMG GLB 35, which has a twin exhaust.

On this occasion, the spy photographers were unable to capture the interior of this version, but other shots have shown that the cabin will echo the models from the A-Class, B-Class and CLA of the brand. As a result, the Mercedes-Benz crossover has a large dashboard dominated by a digital instrument cluster and an infotainment system. Drivers will also get circular air vents, a stepped centre console and familiar switchgear.

Mercedes-AMG GLB 45 2021

AMG models are known for their extra performance, and this is where the new Mercedes-AMG GLB 45 should stand out. Like the Mercedes-Benz A45 and the Mercedes-Benz CLA 45, the Mercedes-AMG GLB 45 2021 is set to receive a new turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine.

Tobias Moers, CEO of AMG, has stated that the new model will produce around 420 CV, although this is believed to be the power output of the S variant. Regardless of the final figures, the Mercedes-AMG GLB 45 will be significantly more powerful than the Mercedes-AMG GLB 35. The smaller version of the crossover will also use a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, but it will produce only 305 CV and a maximum torque of 400 Nm.

Mercedes-Benz GLB, at the Nürburgring

Just a few weeks ago, the star brand took its Mercedes-Benz GLB to the Nürburgring circuit for testing. The new SUV from the German brand uses the latest design language. It also shares components with the recently launched Mercedes-Benz GLE.

For now, official dates are unknown, but everything points to the Frankfurt Motor Show, which takes place next September, being the venue for the new Mercedes-Benz’s official debut. If so, it would be the entry-level SUV in the brand’s range until the launch of the new Mercedes-Benz GLA.
