The Mercedes-Benz G-Class will have a 100% electric variant
Mercedes-Benz is not joking, and intends to electrify its entire range, including the G-Class, a model that will have a 100% electric variant.

Mercedes-Benz’s intentions are clear: to offer a range of vehicles far more committed to the environment. The star brand already showed the first signs of this strategy through the EQC, the first model of the EQ family, which is set to pass its technology and mechanics on to more members of the brand. Said and done. The plug-in hybrid variants of the A-Class and B-Class are another clear example of this, but Mercedes-Benz intends to go further.
The iconic G-Class is in the brand’s sights, which is ready to offer a 100% electric version. This development will not be as fateful as some fans of the model might imagine, since the combustion variants that bring the German 4×4 to life will be respected at all times.
This news was echoed through a tweet by Sascha Pallenberg, an employee of Daimler AG’s Digital Communications Department. Pallenberg made sure the world knows that very soon we will have an EQ variant of the G-Class, a process to which the V-Class was also exposed, and which will show us that electrification and off-road capabilities are not incompatible characteristics.

It was Ola Källenius, a member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG, who spoke the words that Sascha Pallenberg shared on Twitter yesterday morning. “In the past we have had many discussions about when we should phase out the Mercedes-Benz G-Class,” Källenius stated, “now I am very clear that it will be the last Mercedes to disappear”.
“There will be a zero-emissions version of the 4×4”, a statement that confirms the acclaimed G-Class will adapt to the brand’s latest technologies in order to endure over time and adapt, generation after generation, to demanding anti-pollution regulations. With this premise, we should expect the star brand to present this variant of its quintessential off-roader very soon.

For now, it is risky to determine its performance, but considering that the EQC promises 400 CV and 416 km of range, we can expect the EQG -a possible name for the electric version of the G-Class- to match or even surpass it. Be that as it may, we are about to witness a before and after in the history of the brand, which has always stayed true to its most illustrious 4×4 by adapting it to the times, something that will happen again with this wave of electric vehicles now approaching.
