The Mercedes-Benz Vito 2020 gets a mid-life update

The Mercedes-Benz Vito 2020 has been revamped to offer new engines, more technology and more safety features

The Mercedes-Benz Vito is a cornerstone of the brand’s commercial vehicle range, so six years after the third generation of the model was launched, it was crying out for an update.

This facelift has just arrived, so the German van features slight changes that help it stay fresh compared with its rivals. Aesthetically, the changes are practically imperceptible, so the biggest evolution can be seen in its cabin.

The main novelty is the new Audio 30 and Audio 40 infotainment system, both featuring a seven-inch touchscreen and connectivity with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Not only that, but the Mercedes-Benz Vito will debut a new selection of upholstery as well as new air vents. If desired, the optional Chrome package can be added, which brings chrome-finish air outlets and piano-black cabin trim to bring it closer to the finish of the brand’s passenger cars.

Of course, it will still be offered in versions designed for either passenger or goods transport. In the first case, a lighter lining has been fitted to the body, so it can now carry up to 15 kilograms more payload than before. As a result, it will remain an ideal base for building your own camper -don’t miss our feature with step-by-step advice on how to do it-.

The Mercedes-Benz Vito 2020 debuts new technologies and mechanicals

The driver assistance section has also been expanded, so the Mercedes-Benz Vito adds aids such as Active Brake Assist, a safety system that brakes automatically when it detects a hazard.

Another major novelty in this respect is the option to fit Distronic adaptive cruise control. Finally, the rear-view mirror can be digital thanks to a high-resolution LCD screen that can be switched from digital to analogue at the press of a button.

The Mercedes-Benz Vito 2020 also brings mechanical updates, adopting a range of four-cylinder diesel engines offering four power levels: 102 CV, 136 CV, 163 CV and 190 CV.

However, the crown jewel of the engine range is still to come, the Mercedes-Benz Vito 124 CDI. This will produce 239 CV, enabling it to deliver 500 Nm of torque. With such power, it will accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in under 8 seconds and reach a top speed of 210 km/h.

Mercedes e-Vito Tourer: the electric version continues

The electric variant will also remain available, so the Mercedes-Benz e-Vito Tourer will continue to be one of the references in the zero-emissions van segment. It features an electric powertrain developing 150 kW, that is, 201 CV.

It is powered by a 90 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, which gives it a range of 421 kilometres on the WLTP cycle, and its top speed is limited to 160 km/h so as not to penalise its consumption too much. The Mercedes e-Vito Tourer 2020 is compatible with fast charging, so according to the brand, it can charge its battery from 10% to 80% in under 45 minutes.

The Mercedes-Benz Vito 2020 will reach dealerships during April, and although we do not yet know its price in Spain, we know it will be available in Germany from 22,598 euros -price excluding taxes-.
