The Mercedes Class G wants to keep reigning in the 4x4 segment after earning 5 stars at EuroNCAP
The latest-generation Mercedes Class G has taken on the EuroNCAP tests, where it earned the maximum score, demonstrating its high level of safety.

Times are changing, and certain segments are tending to disappear due to the huge avalanche of SUVs flooding our market. Nevertheless, some survivors still want to prove their worth, such as the Mercedes Class G, one of the purest 4x4s and one most faithful to its original philosophy today. To further underline these qualities, the German off-roader has faced EuroNCAP’s demanding tests with its latest generation, aiming to prove not only its capabilities off the asphalt, but also its safety when situations get difficult.
A few days ago, we told you how the SEAT Tarraco had achieved the maximum score in those tests, but the Class G did not want to keep tolerating this slight against its segment, which is being absorbed by SUVs. Driven by that motivation, the star’s 4×4 decided to face every single test right up to the point of earning five stars too, thereby demonstrating the protection it is capable of providing to its occupants.
Optimal safety from every angle
First, we can see how the Mercedes Class G is subjected to a frontal impact at 64 km/h, a speed that causes significant deformation of the front section. Fortunately for the occupants, most of the energy generated in that collision is absorbed by the bonnet, preventing the passenger compartment from being badly affected in that situation.

In the side impact at 50 km/h we can observe very similar behaviour, which keeps much of the force from passing through the doors, thus optimising protection. Very similar results were obtained in the pedestrian run-over and impact tests, a scenario in which the engineers at Mercedes also sought to reduce as much as possible the injuries caused should such a situation occur.
Last but not least, we must highlight the emergency braking systems fitted to the new Mercedes Class G. Thanks to these, the German 4×4 can considerably reduce the likelihood not only of running someone over, but also of suffering a collision with another car whether due to driver distraction or a late braking reaction.

This is how the latest generation of the Mercedes Class G aims not only to reassert the presence of off-roaders in today’s market, but also to show that new technology and technical advances have made it possible for it to become a safe vehicle capable of keeping intact that very characteristic essence.
