The MGS5 EV will arrive in Spain at the AUTOMOBILE BARCELONA show this May

On May 9th the doors of AUTOMOBILE BARCELONA will open, and it’s time to see what the participating brands will offer at the event. One of those brands will be MG, the Chinese brand that is achieving a significant presence in the European market. The brand’s stand will focus on the presentation of the MGS5 EV, an electric SUV with which it aims to reaffirm its position in the continental market.

The MGS5 EV aims to offer a step up from the models it already has on the Spanish market. During the first quarter of 2025, MG registered 12,917 units, doubling the number of vehicles registered in the same period of 2024.

A new electric SUV

The MGS5 EV is based on the MG 4 EV, the brand’s reference electric SUV, but with improved features so that it too becomes a reference model in the market. The MGS5 EV offers a more spacious cabin with more technology, to make the driving experience more satisfying.

The large screen that dominates the dashboard stands out, measuring 12.8 inches. This screen displays the infotainment system with improved graphics and very fast response. There is another screen, dedicated to the digital instrument cluster, measuring 10.25 inches.

On the exterior, it follows the design style used by the rest of MG’s new models, with an eye on the Cyberster. To shape it, the MSP platform has been used, which allows the battery to be placed in the floor, with the ultra-thin Horizontal Cell system of just 110 mm, providing more interior space and good boot capacity.

The lightweight chassis helps achieve good range and driving dynamics. Rear-wheel drive, good weight distribution and a rear multi-link suspension deliver agile, balanced handling for a well-rounded electric vehicle.

In terms of powertrain, it is available with an electric motor delivering 170 kW, equivalent to 230 CV, and a maximum torque of 350 Nm. The battery comes in two capacities. The first is 49 kWh, while the higher-capacity model is 64 kWh. Range figures have not yet been revealed, though we will know soon. As for charging, fast charging allows a full charge in 24 and 28 minutes, respectively.

This new MG electric SUV will be presented on May 9th, so that is when we will have the data on the model.
