The new BMW X3 completes dynamic tests in extreme conditions

The new BMW X3 is already in the phase of carrying out its dynamic tests, which have been conducted in the extreme conditions of the Lapland region.

Although most of the brands’ efforts in these days are focused on preparations for the Geneva Motor Show, the automotive industry does not stop developing new models that we will see later on. One of them, which will not be present at this edition of the Geneva Motor Show, will be the new BMW X3, which is already in advanced stages of its development.

To be honest, we can tell you little data or news about the future new X3 beyond the brief statement from BMW. For now, and thanks to the set of photos accompanying this article, BMW shows us the new X3 with a heavy camouflage covering its bodywork while it is carrying out dynamic tests, conducted, by the way, in quite extreme winter conditions.

To carry out these tests, the Bavarians took the BMW X3 to the outskirts of the small Swedish town of Arjeplog, in the Lapland region, a place that is quite popular among manufacturers for this type of extreme winter testing. Because it is only 56 kilometres from the Arctic Circle, conditions for this kind of testing are ideal at this time of year, when vehicles have to withstand temperatures of minus 20 degrees, along with the corresponding ice and snow.

In these conditions, and with the enormous frozen surfaces of the lakes, the BMW X3 has put its dynamic capability and BMW’s xDrive all-wheel-drive system to work together. According to BMW, these tests have been a total success, and they have also helped create a new generation of X3 that is much more agile and fun to drive than the current one.

As for the rest of its features, we can tell you little, although despite all that camouflage there seems to be a slight increase in size, and many rumours suggest its weight has been slightly reduced. The engine range will most likely follow the line of the one fitted to the current BMW X3, perhaps with some updates and, of course, a more sporty and powerful variant in line with its rivals on the market.

Its arrival in BMW’s range has not yet been set, nor has its presentation, although everything points to it not appearing at a show until late this year or early 2018, most likely at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September or the Detroit Motor Show in January.
