The new compact SUV R2 from Rivian will also arrive in Europe -and in Spain-
At Rivian’s headquarters, they believe their new R2 compact electric SUV is the right vehicle for the company’s debut in the European market
Although for the moment this is a report not officially confirmed by the company itself, everything points to the new compact electric SUV from the Californian manufacturer not being a model exclusive to the North American market, but that we will also see it on European streets and roads.
The Rivian R2 will be officially presented on March 7, and that will probably be when the company officially announces its availability in various markets, including Europe. The third electric model in the company’s lineup is expected to be a reduced-size and lower-priced version of the R1S we already know, which for now is only sold in North America.

The Californian manufacturer plans to start production of its new compact SUV in 2026, at a new plant in Georgia that is currently under construction. Therefore, it will not be until then, or even somewhat later, that we see the first units of the Rivian R2 in Europe.
Rivian is also eyeing Spain
In the same report that refers to the future sale of the Rivian R2 in the Old Continent, the European countries where this new compact electric SUV will be available are also mentioned. These would be the following nine: Austria, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, France, Italy, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and also Spain.
Until this information is officially confirmed, the absence of some European countries from that list is striking, as is the case with all the Scandinavian countries, where the penetration rate of electric vehicles is much higher than, for example, in Spain. Although of course nobody should take this as a complaint, and we are delighted that our country appears for once on a list like this.

Although Rivian announced its intention to sell its R1T and R1S models in Europe many years ago, it seems that the first electric passenger vehicle from the company to reach this market will finally be the R2. It should be remembered, however, that Rivian is already distributing its EDV delivery van across Europe as a result of its agreement with Amazon. Some units of this van were already seen last year in Germany, and it is estimated that, as of today, there are around 300 in operational condition forming part of the e-commerce giant’s European delivery fleet.
