The new Fiat Ducato 4x4, a commercial vehicle eager to become a camper
The new generation of the Fiat Ducato has a camper spirit, as it is the only commercial van designed from the ground up to be converted into a leisure vehicle

Fiat Profesional has unveiled the new Fiat Ducato 4×4, a commercial vehicle that can also serve as the basis for a camper version, a fairly popular option that could make this model one of the favourites among users of this type of vehicle. The four-wheel-drive version has been presented as a show vehicle, although it will reach the brand’s dealerships shortly. In this model, traction will be permanent, with two transfer cases and an automatically operating central viscous coupling.
In addition, this type of drive has a layout that allows no loss of load capacity, which makes it very practical and efficient. The Fiat Ducato offers a good base for creating a camper vehicle and has been designed to fulfil this role without forgetting its essence as a cargo vehicle. The proportions of the chassis and the suspension are designed to maintain good control, with equipment suitable for camping.
Comfort and functionality
It features swivelling “Captain Chair” seats, an adjustable steering wheel and hydraulic power steering to improve comfort for both the driver and passengers. The controls are within the driver’s reach, and the technology allows a good connection with the occupants’ mobile devices. It is equipped with the Uconnect system, controlled through a 5-inch screen. The radio can receive both traditional and digital (DAB) broadcasts.
The driver of the Ducato 4×4 will have a good number of driver assistance systems, such as electronic stability control; Hill Holder for safe hill starts; anti-skid system and automatic emergency braking. It is also equipped with the Traction+ system and Hill Descent Control, which helps with the most demanding low-speed descents, as well as a lane departure warning system, among others.
Functional engines
The engines powering the Fiat Ducato are Multijet units ranging from 115 to 180 CV, offering solutions for caravan manufacturers. Among these, the 2.0-litre Multijet 115 stands out as the entry-level option, which, thanks to Euro 6 regulations, achieves a 6% reduction in consumption. The best-selling engine is the 2.3-litre MultiJet2 130, which is suitable for both the camper and commercial configurations. The 2.3-litre MultiJet2 150 is also available and is intended for the larger variants. Finally, the top of the range is the 2.3-litre MultiJet2 180, which replaces the previous 3.0-litre engine, offering the same power level but with much lower consumption.
All 2.3-litre engines are paired with a Comfort Matic robotised gearbox, which improves performance. Furthermore, we know that the promotional campaign will be fronted by none other than Chuck Norris, so… how could we not choose the new Fiat Ducato 4×4?
