The new Honda Civic Type R Prototype has made its official debut at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2017, which runs from 13 to 15 January. The Type R prototype, which takes the proportions of the five-door Civic, is reinforced by the athletic styling of its exterior, and it also features a series of modifications that contribute to greater aerodynamic performance.

The car displayed on the brand’s stand features an exclusive polished aluminium-effect finish. The famous red ‘H’ badge of Honda – which adorns every Type R model – sits above a new air outlet on the front. Its aggressive front bumper features carbon fibre splitter and a sporty red lower line that runs along the entire silhouette of the car.

Three fully functional exhaust pipes catch the eye at the rear. It also incorporates carbon fibre side skirts that extend along the entire wheelbase. Another striking feature is the 20-inch alloy wheels, finished in black with red detailing, which are fitted with high-performance tyres with a section width of 245 mm.

Beneath the rear bumper are three fully functional exhaust outlets, flanked by two directional diffusers on each side. The central exhaust outlet has a smaller diameter and stands out for its bright metallic red colour. At the rear of the vehicle, a large spoiler with a striking design stands out.

Production of the Civic Type R will begin in summer 2017 at the Swindon plant (England). It will be exported to various international markets, and for example this will be the first time this model is sold in the USA. This time, in Japan, sales will no longer be limited to a small number of units.
