The new Hyundai Elantra debuts a new platform
This is how the seventh generation of the Hyundai Elantra will look. The South Korean model evolves in practically every aspect, standing out among them its new platform.
Hyundai is going through a period of constant innovation and renewal. Not long ago it unveiled its Prophecy Concept, an electric saloon with which it may go head-to-head with the Tesla Model S. It is also in constant renewal because during these months of 2020 it has already presented the renewed i30 and i20. Furthermore, Hyundai continues with its firm commitment to the most capable model in its range, the Kona. The SUV is available with diesel, petrol, hybrid and electric versions.
New design features of the new Hyundai Elantra
The new South Korean saloon has a much longer, more streamlined and, in short, more attractive silhouette. The new front grille features a cascading mesh that blends perfectly with the LED headlights and angled design. The shape of the lamps and the aggressive bonnet ridge give the new Elantra’s front end a very sporty look.

Its rear also features new lights that run across the full width of the tailgate, thanks to the design Hyundai has already used on other new models such as the i20. From the side, we can see its new design alloy wheels with diameters ranging from 15 to 17 inches. In addition, the wheelbase is longer thanks to the new platform on which it is built. Its wheelbase has increased by 2 centimetres, its length by 5.5 cm and its width by 2.54 cm.
Inside the cabin
The new Hyundai Elantra 2021 will feature Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. The infotainment system can be operated from the 10.25-inch screen located in the centre of the dashboard. In addition to the screen, Hyundai has fitted an improved voice recognition system that better understands the driver’s commands. The aim is to prevent the system from working only with predetermined patterns.

The interior design of the new Elantra aims to make driving as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. The cabin has been improved with larger storage compartments, a very minimalist design and materials of very high quality. It will also feature ambient lighting with 64 possible configurations.
Mechanical options of all kinds
The new Elantra will initially arrive with three trim levels, associated with the naturally aspirated 2.0-litre MPI petrol engine producing 147 CV and 178 Nm of peak torque, paired with a CVT gearbox. But the most important novelty will be the hybrid version of the Elantra. This alternative uses a four-cylinder 1.6-litre GDi engine combined with a 32 kW electric motor. The electric motor is powered by a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 1.32 kWh. Combined output will be 141 CV and 264 Nm of torque, paired with a six-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
Launch of the new Hyundai Elantra
Production of this model will begin in autumn of this same year at Hyundai’s North American and South Korean factories. The model will probably reach other countries earlier, once 2021 begins, so in Spain we will have to wait until the second half of next year to see it on our streets.
