The new Mercedes Clase A Sedan boasts aerodynamics

With a drag coefficient (Cx) of 0.22, the new Mercedes Clase A Sedan boasts being the most aerodynamic production car in the world.

Mercedes is starting to reveal details of the new Mercedes Clase A Sedan 2019, which will go on sale at the end of this year in the European market. Let us recall that the star brand already presented the Mercedes Clase A L Saloon with a long wheelbase at the Beijing Motor Show. On which the new Clase A Sedan that will reach the rest of the markets at the end of this year will be based, and which will be manufactured at the Mercedes-Benz plants in Aguascalientes (Mexico) and Rastatt (Germany). This version will maintain the wheelbase of the 5-door Clase A, at 2,729 mm, sharing its mechanical range and equipment with it.

There is currently no other production car on sale with an aerodynamic coefficient as favourable as the one announced for the new Mercedes Clase A Sedan.

In its first unveiling, the new Clase A Sedan could not claim more of the spotlight. Mercedes has sharpened the silhouette of the new Clase A Sedan to achieve a drag coefficient (Cx) of just 0.22, with a frontal area of 2.19 square metres. What do these figures mean? Quite simply, that the Mercedes Clase A Sedan will become the most aerodynamic production car in the world. For reference, the current Mercedes Clase A with a 5-door body managed to reduce the Cx of its predecessor from 0.26 to 0.25. Here you have the road test of the Mercedes Clase A with 5-door body that we were able to carry out at the national presentation of this model.

The three-box version of the Mercedes Clase A for the Chinese market, with a long wheelbase, was presented at the Beijing Motor Show.

To achieve such a brilliant figure, Mercedes has especially worked on the design of the front end of the new Clase A Sedan, using computer simulations and many hours of work in the brand’s wind tunnel in Sindelfingen. Some of the measures that contribute to achieving this record are the reduction of the frontal area, the active cooling grille system, the special sealing of the joint between the light units and the bodywork, a special underbody panelling and a new rear diffuser.
