The new Multijet II engine arrives at the Fiat 500

Fiat announced that the 500 range now incorporates the new second-generation common rail Multijet engine, with Start&Stop as standard. Developed and produced by FPT (Fiat Powertrain Technologies), the 1.3 Multijet II with 95 CV belongs to the second generation of Multijet engines and is fitted with new common rail injectors which, through a counterweighted hydraulic servo valve, control with great precision the amount of diesel injected into the combustion chamber.
The injection sequence is faster and more flexible than before (up to 8 injections within a single cycle). This allows the engine to improve control of diesel combustion, with benefits in terms of consumption, emissions, noise and driveability.
The new 95 CV engine is equipped with a variable geometry turbocharger, which ensures optimised boost across the entire operating range. Consumption is reduced by up to 8% in urban driving, thanks also to the Start&Stop system, which temporarily shuts off the engine and restarts it. Homologated to Euro 5, the new 1.3-litre incorporates the diesel particulate filter (DPF) directly in the engine bay, improving its performance and making it even more effective from the first moments of operation after a cold start.
With the introduction of the Fiat 500, this new technology will be gradually rolled out to the rest of the models, starting with the Punto Evo in September 2010.
The prices in Spain of the models equipped with the new Multijet II will be as follows (also detailing their emission levels):
