The new Peugeot 2008 will be available with petrol and diesel engines, and there will be an electric version. Shortly after images of the new Peugeot 2008 were leaked, the lion brand has officially unveiled its new SUV. As could be seen in the images, the model looks very much like a smaller version of the Peugeot 3008 itself. In addition, the manufacturer hopes to emulate the success of the Peugeot 3008 with its smaller version.

As has happened with the Peugeot 208, the new Peugeot 2008 will be available with a selection of petrol and diesel engines, but the novelty is that it can also be chosen with electric motors. Customers will be able to choose from three three-cylinder petrol engines PureTech 1.2-litre with outputs ranging from 99 CV, through 128 CV, up to 153 CV.

The diesel engine, for its part, is a 1.5-litre BlueHDI version with 100 CV paired with a manual gearbox. The novelty is the electric version of the lion brand’s small SUV. It is called the Peugeot e-2008 and is fully electric. It features a 50 kWh battery pack and a 140 CV electric motor. This powertrain supports fast charging at 100 kW, meaning its battery can reach 80% capacity in just 30 minutes.

The new Peugeot e-2008 has a range, according to the WLTP homologation cycle, of 310 kilometres and, because the battery is mounted under the floor, the vehicle offers generous boot and cabin space.

It is worth noting that the small SUV from the lion brand is also fitted with a Focal 10-speaker audio system and the i-Cockpit of the brand, featuring a small steering wheel and a head-up display. Since the new Peugeot 2008 is based on the common modular platform of the PSA Group, it is 14 centimetres longer than its predecessor, measuring 1.7 metres wide and 1.54 metres high. All versions come with a standard boot capacity of 360 litres.

David Peel, managing director of Peugeot in the United Kingdom, has stated that “the new Peugeot 2008 is the second vehicle introduced in the brand’s range where the customer can choose between a conventional petrol or diesel engine, or a 100% electric variant, without compromising on technology, looks or driving experience”. “We firmly believe in choosing a model from the brand and then its powertrain. The new Peugeot 2008 SUV is also another step forward in our commitment to having an electrified version across our entire range by 2023”.
