The new predictive suspension, the latest invention from Audi
Audi presents the predictive suspension, a mechanism capable of countering lateral forces in corners.

At the forefront of technology, that is the slogan of Audi Spain. A phrase that accompanies every step taken by the brand with the four rings. Every year they surprise us with new inventions, but the one I bring you today goes a step beyond physics. I’m talking about the new predictive suspension, a mechanism capable of countering lateral forces while increasing the comfort and safety of its occupants.
German technology is advancing by leaps and bounds, and proof of this is the new invention from Audi. This system relies on sensors and cameras distributed throughout the vehicle with the aim of analysing every detail of the road up to 20 metres ahead, even in the most difficult conditions, such as wet roads or at night.
An algorithm in the vehicle’s control unit analyses the information gathered by the sensors and cameras about irregularities in the road surface and the vehicle’s own movements, sending the appropriate signals to the suspension to improve the driving experience. According to Audi, the simulations are already performing with a very high degree of reliability, and the development of high-resolution sensors is progressing rapidly.

The engineers at the brand with the four rings have used an Audi A5 Coupé 3.0 TDI Quattro fitted with an active chassis. With the camera system installed on board, together with GPS data, it is possible to detect the course of the road, accurately register the radius of the bend and respond to inclined surfaces by leaning the car into the corner with a body tilt angle of up to 5 degrees. The result is a considerable increase in comfort, as lateral forces are dissipated while both safety and speed through corners are improved.
From Audi they state that they have taken as their inspiration ice skaters and skiers, who lean into turns in order to counteract the lateral forces produced when taking bends.
It is still unknown when this invention will reach the market, but it is certainly a completely revolutionary development that will make driving much simpler and safer.
