The new Toyota Auris goes on sale in Japan

The Toyota Auris has received a “facelift” that we saw at the Geneva Motor Show, although for its launch in Japan a higher-range version has been used, featuring the new 1.2-litre turbocharged engine and equipment above the standard level

From today, Japan has a new version of the Toyota Auris, which has gone on sale in the Asian country. It is a mid-cycle update featuring a turbocharged engine and new safety equipment. This facelift brings improvements both on the outside and inside, as was seen at the recent Geneva Motor Show 2015.

In addition, the brand has launched a new version aimed solely at the local market, with a top-of-the-range trim called 120T. This is offered with the new 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which delivers 114 CV and a maximum torque of 185 Nm between 1,500 and 4,000 rpm, sent to the wheels through a Super CVT-i transmission.

This version features a Stop&Start system that helps achieve fuel consumption of 5.1 l per 100 km. Furthermore, according to Toyota, the emissions of this car are at least 75% lower than the average of the standards required in 2005, so buyers of this Auris trim will be able to benefit from favourable tax conditions, as it is considered an eco-friendly vehicle.

The Auris facelift is also offered with two other engines, both four-cylinder and naturally aspirated, at 1.5 and 1.8 litres. Inside, the new version features, across all options, a newly redesigned dashboard finished in wood. The seat fabric is a combination of Ultrasuede, leather and artificial leather.

The Auris has been equipped with cruise control, heated seats and an interior rear-view mirror with anti-glare treatment. Furthermore, just as with the Corolla facelift, the Auris has been fitted with the Toyota Safety Sense C package, which uses a laser radar together with a camera to detect and locate obstacles.

Prices for these models start at 13,000 euros, and the brand expects to sell around one thousand units per month this year. Perhaps in the near future this higher version will reach other markets, but for now it can only be enjoyed in its country of origin.
