The new version of Tesla's AutoPilot includes many more improvements than it seems

The American brand is improving its autonomous driving system by optimizing the operation of the lateral and frontal collision warning, among other things.

All Tesla Model S and X units produced since October 2016 come with the AutoPilot system installed, which includes fully autonomous driving, although limited to certain functions. This does not mean the car drives for us; rather, it will take control if necessary to avoid rear-end collisions and/or accidents.

The American company is still in the process of developing the new version of its software, and it has now confirmed the arrival of a series of updates to improve the AutoPilot technology in different driving scenarios.

Through a statement, Tesla has unveiled the updates that its AutoPilot autonomous driving system will include. An improved Traffic-Aware Cruise Control, the Autopark system for parallel and perpendicular parking (allowing parking both in line and in bays), and the novel lateral and frontal collision warning system are the main elements that have been improved for Tesla’s autonomous driving software.

Another of the updates that Tesla’s AutoPilot receives is the automatic emergency braking system and the updated “Summon” mode, a function that allows the vehicle to park and leave a parking space autonomously via an app. It will also include improvements to its Autosteer autonomous steering technology and to the lane change assistant (Auto Lane Change).

According to Tesla’s CEO, Elon Musk, in his Twitter account, “the new software algorithm is as smooth as silk.” Musk has also confirmed that this new version will only improve the current version (HW2). All these features will be installed in vehicles once the new-generation models are launched from its Fremont factory.

The AutoPilot updates represent an important step for Elon Musk in his goal of traveling the distance between Los Angeles and New York in a completely autonomous way before the end of the year.
