The next Audi Q8 Sport Concept will use Android as its operating system

Audi presents the new Q8 at the Google I/O conference, which incorporates the Android operating system and will work without the need for a smartphone.

The concept of the Audi Q8 Sport Concept, which will be shown at the Google I/O conference at the end of this week, features a new infotainment device that includes Google’s popular Android operating system. This allows the car to offer several new features, including Spotify, Google Play Music, Google Maps and Google Assistant.

The Android operating system will allow users to use smartphone apps in their own vehicle. In addition to the new features, the system allows information to be displayed both on the Audi virtual cockpit, located directly in front of the driver, and on the MMI touchscreen located in the center of the dashboard. “It is the first time that the new services have been fully integrated into the infotainment system of Audi,” says the German car manufacturer.

The navigation system will continue to use the AIS Maps application with the HERE database from Audi (the brand partly owns this company), but users will also be able to navigate using Google Maps if they wish. The Android operating system will also feature a messaging and calls center.

Audi is not the only brand that wants to incorporate the Android system into its cars, since Volvo has also recently partnered with Google to develop its upcoming vehicles with this operating system.

Android has more than 1.4 billion active users around the planet, so Audi sees this operating system as an important improvement for the company. Android promises shorter update cycles and a greater variety of services, as well as broad international availability.
