The next Mazda 2 will share a platform with the CX-5

At least two years still remain before the city model from Mazda receives its next generation. However, important details about the upcoming model came to light this week and give an idea of what to expect. The new information came from the British importer of Mazda in statements to the website just-auto, and they give an idea of what the next Mazda 2 will be like.
First, it will use a shortened version of the platform shared by the Mazda 6 and CX-5. The current generation uses the architecture of the Ford Fiesta, but both manufacturers ended their collaboration agreement years ago. In this way, Mazda will more easily be able to make use of engines and other components from other products, such as the future generations of the Mazda 3 or MPV, which will also move to the same platform.
In addition, just like the compact model, the next Mazda 2 will add to the list of plants where it is produced the one that the brand will have in Salamanca, Mexico. Furthermore, just-auto has learned that Mazda will shorten the life cycle of its models. Instead of the six to eight years that currently separate generations, the next ones will be updated every four years.
Both will receive the corresponding facelifts, so it can be estimated that the new Mazda 6 will receive a facelift next year. This strategy will increase advertising and R&D costs, but it will allow its models to age much more slowly than they do now. As for a possible Mazda CX-3, the British importer noted that there is no official plan to develop it.
