The popular Opel commercial vehicle is undergoing a renovation and facelift to offer a better service and more technological equipment.

We already knew that the brands under the Stellantis umbrella would launch updates to their commercial vehicles. The first of these is the new Opel Combo, the smallest van from the German brand, which receives an update that gives it a more refined look and more practical features. Unlike the Opel Combo intended for passenger transport, which will only arrive in electric form, the Combo for cargo will be offered with both electric and combustion engines.

This model shares elements that come from other Stellantis models, such as the Citroën Berlingo, the Opel Partner, the Toyota ProAce City and the Fiat Dobló. In addition, it has been given the Opel Vizor treatment, which can be found on other passenger vehicles from the brand.

The front features new, slimmer light clusters. Furthermore, headlights with Intelli-Lux LED Matrix technology can be selected as an option. The Vizor panel houses both the headlights and the front grille, and the new bumper receives interconnected new air intakes, while the bonnet extends to the grille.

The exterior changes stop there, as the rest of the update is focused on the cabin. In the driver’s position we find a redesigned steering wheel and behind it a 10-inch screen that houses the digital instrument cluster. The infotainment screen is also 10 inches and is thinner.

The technology of the new Opel Combo is based on the Snapdragon Cockpit Platforms from Qualcomm and features good connectivity that allows for more functions. It has the Dynamic Surround Vision system, supported by two cameras and 18 driver assistance systems, including adaptive cruise control, which is available as an option.

Customers can choose between two or three front seats, and there is a five-seat version, called Crew Cab, for professionals who need additional seating. There are two body types, standard and long. Depending on the body chosen, the load capacity will change, although the maximum is rated at 4,400 litres, which makes for a very attractive level of practicality.

In the case of the electric version, the Opel Combo has a payload capacity of 780 kg and a towing capacity of 750 kg.

Engines of the new Opel Combo

The electric version will have a single motor, which delivers a power output of 100 kW, that is, 136 CV, and a maximum torque of 270 Nm. Energy is stored in a 50 kWh battery, the same as in the previous configuration. The incorporation of a heat pump and changes to the regenerative braking allow the range to be increased up to 320 kilometres on the WLTP cycle.

A petrol version will also be available. This one offers a 1.2 PureTech engine, which will be paired with a manual gearbox. The diesel version will feature a 1.5-litre BlueHDI engine, which, in addition to the manual gearbox, will be optionally available with an automatic gearbox.

This renovation of the Opel Combo will arrive before the end of 2023, so it will be available very soon.
