The Performance version of the Tesla Model Y will reach the market this very year

If we take as a reference the launch strategy for the different versions of the Tesla “Highland” Model 3, the Performance version of the Model Y should reach the market in the second half of this same year.

After the refreshed Model Y was finally unveiled and orders opened in the first weeks of this new year, Tesla plans to make the first deliveries of its new electric SUV this coming March. However, initially only one launch version will be available, with dual electric motors and all-wheel drive, for a little over 60,000 euros.

That is why many customers are eager for the launch of new versions of the refreshed Model Y, and this affects not only the most affordable one with rear-wheel drive and standard battery pack, but also the Performance version at the top of the range. Fortunately for these customers, the wait does not seem likely to be excessively long, since Tesla plans to roll out all of these versions over the coming months, before the year is out.

This has been confirmed by Lars Moravy, Tesla’s Vice President of Vehicle Engineering, together with Franz von Holzhausen, the company’s Senior Director of Design, in a recent episode of Jay Leno’s show “Jay Leno’s Garage“, in which they discussed in depth the refreshed Model Y, the most popular vehicle from the North American manufacturer.

“We’ll start with the launch edition and then all the other variants will follow. The dual-motor version, the rear-wheel drive, the Performance and also the seven-seat version will arrive throughout the year”.

It would not be surprising if the Model Y Performance reaches the market this very summer

As for the long-awaited Performance version, for now the company has not revealed further details, either about its technical specifications or about a more precise launch date. In any case, if we look at what has happened with the refreshed Model 3 “Highland”, we can expect it to offer greater power, improved suspension, and some aesthetic changes to set it apart from the other versions and give it a more aggressive look.

Currently, the launch edition based on the version with dual electric motors and the extended-range battery pack delivers 340 kW of power and 583 Nm of torque, allowing it to reach 100 km/h from a standstill in 4.3 seconds, according to the manufacturer. This version also offers a range of 568 km under the WLTP homologation cycle, with an average energy consumption of 15.3 kWh per 100 km driven. On the other hand, when charging at an ultra-rapid DC charging point, it supports a maximum power of 250 kW, which should allow the range to increase by just over 250 km in only 15 minutes.

The base price of this launch edition in Spain is 61,970 euros, including the destination and documentation fee of 980 euros. This price can only increase depending on the driver assistance package chosen, as there is no other additional option that carries a cost for the customer.
