The Peugeot Speedfight 125 turns 20 years old, riding through the streets of our cities
This sporty scooter has already reached its fourth generation, with 600,000 units sold, and is presented with a new engine that improves its efficiency and fuel consumption

Getting around the city can be quite complex, so it’s worth taking some measures to move through the streets comfortably and efficiently. A scooter can be a good option, and if we talk about a vehicle manufacturer with ample experience in this type of practical and efficient two-wheeler, it is Peugeot. In this case, we are talking about the Peugeot Speedfight 125, a scooter that turns 20 years old while remaining one of the most interesting options in this market.
The fourth generation of the model was presented last year, in 2016, but it is now that it finally reaches the market, offering several new features that provide greater stability, an improved engine, and all of this without losing its sporty spirit. The target audience for this scooter is, obviously, the younger rider, although its characteristics make it a multi-generational vehicle, as it is also greatly appreciated by older riders.

The main selling point of this fourth generation of the Speedfight 125 is the new Peugeot SmartMotion engine, designed by the R&D Department of the Mandeure factory (France). This engine, built with Peugeot’s own technology, combines LFE (Low Friction Efficiency) technology with ACG (Alternative Current Generator). Thanks to these technologies, it deactivates the magnetic flywheel during acceleration and deceleration phases when the battery is sufficiently charged, thereby ensuring fuel savings. This engine delivers a consumption of 2.1 litres per 100 km.
The fourth generation of this scooter arrives with interesting new features. In terms of safety, it uses the SBC (Synchro Braking Concept) integral braking system, which distributes braking between the front and rear wheels when the brake is applied, without affecting stability. Other elements included in this fourth generation of the Peugeot Speedfight 125 are an inverted hydraulic fork that offers greater efficiency even in sportier riding; LED lighting for the headlights, forming a light signature for the Peugeot Scooters; a USB port for charging a phone and another 12 V socket under the seat; storage for a helmet in the same space, and several elements for comfortably carrying a small load, such as a backpack.
This scooter, which already has 600,000 units sold since its launch in 1997, has become a good option for those city journeys where efficiency of transport takes priority over other considerations. For that reason, it deserves serious consideration if the city is the main setting for your daily travel.
