The Porsche 911 GT3 RS 2023 sets a Nürburgring lap time of 6:49.328
The Porsche 911 GT3 RS 2023 has become the third-fastest production car ever around the Nürburgring.

It is officially the fastest naturally aspirated production car to lap the Green Hell. We all knew it was coming. As soon as Porsche unveiled the track-focused 911 GT3 RS, we knew it would take on the Green Hell. An impressive lap time around the Nürburgring is the holy grail of high-performance motorsport because it tests a car in its entirety: the engine, the gearbox, the brakes, the aerodynamics, the mechanical grip, and so on.
Let’s not beat around the bush. The new Porsche 911 GT3 RS recorded a time of 6:49.328 minutes over the 20.8 km Nürburgring Nordschleife. Porsche also recorded a time of 6:44.848 for its quickest lap. The car was driven by Jörg Bergmeister, Stuttgart brand ambassador and a legend of endurance racing.
This is the Porsche that did a 6:49.328
The GT3 RS used was fitted with the optional Weissach Package. Porsche also opted for the optional Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tyres, sized 275/35 R20 at the front and 335/30 R21 at the rear. The RS completed the 20-kilometre circuit 10.6 seconds faster than the standard GT3. The previous-generation GT3 RS, also equipped with the Weissach Package, completed a lap in 6:56.4. For that lap, Porsche removed the infotainment system and climate control. This is no longer an option on the new GT3 RS.

Before the new GT3 RS appeared, the top five (from fifth to first) read as follows: Lamborghini Huracán Performante LP640-4 (6:52.01), Porsche 911 GT2 RS (6:47.25), Lamborghini Aventador SVJ LP770-4 (6:44.97), Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series (6:43.616), and the Porsche 911 GT2 RS MR with a time of 6:38.835.
The GT3 RS’s time of 6:44.848 officially makes it the third-fastest production car around the ‘Ring’. It is 1.2 seconds quicker than the AMG GT Black Series and less than eight seconds slower than the Porsche 911 GT2 RS MR. Most impressive of all is the fact that it beat the previous-generation GT2 RS. The GT3 RS is now officially the fastest naturally aspirated car around the Green Hell, beating the 759 CV Aventador SVJ.

What power does the GT3 RS have? It has a naturally aspirated six-cylinder, four-litre engine. Andreas Preuninger, GT car director, noted that “today, the 911 GT3 RS fulfilled what it had already promised at first glance: absolute excellence on the racetrack. Considering the far-from-ideal conditions, with a strong headwind on the long Dottinger Höhe straight and cold track temperatures, we are satisfied with this time. The 911 GT3 RS is setting new standards for aerodynamics and chassis. I had never before experienced a road car representing motorsport this much.”
