The Porsche Carrera GT Zagato is the subtle change that makes all the difference

The Porsche Carrera GT was reworked by Zagato a few years ago. The result was a clear example that less is more, with an elegant and sporty design.

When we think of supercars, we always associate them with unique and exclusive vehicles that radiate grandeur from every angle. However, there are occasions when we come across brands capable of refining the final result and further enhancing the magnificence some supercars display. The Porsche Carrera GT is one of those models that has surely been the main feature of countless poster-covered walls, something that adds to its undeniable charm and, even so, Zagato has improved it considerably.

Although the Italian coachbuilder had already worked with the German supercar a few years ago, the result achieved back then still reminds us that the simplest changes can be the most successful. At first, Carrera GT fans trembled at the thought that the modifications might spoil the car’s essence but, as true experts, Zagato showed a respect and commitment worthy of admiration.

Elegance and sportiness join hands to shape this variant of one of the most iconic models of Porsche and, at the same time, keeping its spirit intact. The Carrera GT is admired by many for its great design and pure mechanics, but Zagato knew how to make the most of that and accentuate even further the impressive features of the German supercar.

At first glance, nothing about the styling of the CGZ (short for Carrera GT after passing through the coachbuilder’s hands) gives it away, since, as we mentioned, subtlety is the main factor that brings the new design to life. A double spine rises from the tail to cover the powerful engine that rests calmly in the belly of the Carrera GT. Both lines give uniformity to the rear of the Porsche, causing the rear of the car to flow directly into the roof.

This double bubble gives the Carrera GT a carefree new look that keeps its essence intact, just as its mechanics do. That’s right, the powerful naturally aspirated V10 engine that powers the German supercar has undergone no changes, so it will continue to delight our ears with its sweet melody. At the same time, its 612 CV of power and 590 Nm of torque are still sent directly to the rear axle, giving the Carrera GT performance on par with any of its rivals.

Without a doubt, with this vehicle Zagato once again demonstrated that less is more, with gentle, refined changes, which preserve the elegance of the Carrera GT in its full splendor. This project is now a few years old, but who knows whether the Italian coachbuilder has plans to do something similar again, this time with the Porsche 918 Spyder.
