If you miss the Volkswagen Beetle, this Memminger Roadster 2.7 is going to delight you

Although the Volkswagen Beetle has returned in the form of a special version built by the company Memminger, with a spectacular engine and look, as a concept

Although the Volkswagen Beetle is no longer with us, many of us (we) are fascinated by this veteran German model. So it is no surprise that other manufacturers want to keep recreating the car and dare to innovate on the basis this model provides. Memminger is one of the companies that has been transforming these classic cars since 1992, and it has just launched the Memminger Roadster 2.7, a striking version of the model.

The Roadster 2.7 takes its name from the four-cylinder, 2.7-litre engine, which gives this reworked Beetle a power output of 210 CV and a maximum torque of 247 Nm. The engine is mounted in the middle of the car. It is paired with a five-speed manual gearbox and can reach a top speed of 200 km/h, which is not bad at all and confirms the sporty spirit of this reworked Beetle.

The engine, of course, is not the only change and improvement we can see on this model. It uses brake discs taken from a classic Porsche 911, which keeps this remarkable power well under control. The suspension has also been adjusted to suit this transformation, which additionally uses lightweight alloy wheels fitted with wide tyres.

As for driving, the manufacturer wants this to be one of the car’s key points. It has therefore removed from the interior all the electronic elements, and there is no large touchscreen for controlling the infotainment systems, simply because there isn’t one.

Facing the driver, we find only a traditional instrument cluster, with nothing else added. Even the clock is analogue. Memminger does not want anything to get in the way of the pleasure of driving and focuses on the essentials. The Memminger Roadster 2.7 is based on a 1970s Beetle and has undergone a thorough transformation to achieve its imposing look and a mechanical specification that gives it a new life.

The Memminger Roadster 2.7 is still a concept, but the company is showing it to gauge whether there is interest in it, and if a significant number of people express interest, it will produce a special edition. That said, it will be limited to only 20 units, so it will certainly not be cheap, and if you are interested, you will need to hurry, because I don’t expect it to last long…
