The Porsche Taycan Turbo S reaches 761 CV

The Porsche Taycan is one of the most astonishing sports cars we have seen in recent times. Part of the blame lies with the power and acceleration figures its models offer.

The Taycan Turbo, Turbo S and 4S models have two electric motors, one on the front axle and another on the rear axle. For this reason, all versions are four-wheel drive. So that boot volume is not greatly reduced, the rear module is installed parallel to the axle, above the inverter, so that its position is staggered and does not take up too much boot space.

The gearbox in these models is a two-speed unit located on the rear axle. This is an innovative element developed by Porsche. First gear allows the German sports car to accelerate with tremendous force from a standstill, while second gear ensures efficiency and energy reserves at high speeds.

In addition to the gear ratio that gives second gear, there is an extra ratio for first gear, which is very short. Roughly 15 engine revolutions correspond to one wheel revolution. The result is almost 12,000 Nm of peak torque, which delivers acceleration almost without equal. Thanks to all of this, the Taycan is one of the few sports cars capable of reaching speeds typical of combustion models. It can reach 260 km/h.

Unmatched power figures

The Porsche Taycan 4S could be described as the entry point to the German supercar range. With the Performance battery it produces 530 CV, while with the Performance Plus it produces 571 CV. Moving up the scale, the Taycan Turbo is the second most powerful with 680 CV. The Turbo S, the top version, reaches 761 CV thanks to the Launch Control and overboost functions.

The Launch Control system delivers the maximum possible acceleration from a standstill without the wheels spinning, so as to catapult the car without a hint of loss of traction. This system is standard across the whole Taycan range. The overboost function is the one through which the electric motors deliver greater power for a short period of time. That power peak is what enables the Turbo S to reach nearly 800 CV.

We cannot close the article without mentioning its acceleration. We have already said that Launch Control allows every tenth of a second of acceleration to be squeezed out. The most performance-oriented version, the Taycan Turbo S, is capable of accelerating from 0-100 km/h in just 2.8 seconds. Furthermore, at high speeds the car can regain speed with ease, thanks above all to its two motors, the well-matched gearbox and the abundant power at its disposal.
