The production of the Volkswagen Scirocco comes to an end

The sporty compact from Volkswagen is losing its life after 43 years of history. The company has no intention of replacing the Scirocco with a similar model.

Der neue Volkswagen Scirocco und Scirocco R

The Volkswagen Scirocco is one of those cars that you no longer see. The three-door sporty compact has been, and still is, a brilliant alternative to the Volkswagen Golf, which unfortunately will no longer be. The German company has announced that the Scirocco has been discontinued after 43 years of history.

The Volkswagen Scirocco is one of the oldest models from the Bavarian manufacturer: in 2008 production of the second generation began after a break of almost 20 years, which unfortunately now comes to an end. We say unfortunately because the company does not plan to replace the sporty compact with another model in the future. In fact, it seems that the only segments that will have a place in the brand’s future range will be crossovers and electric cars.

With this brief message, Volkswagen announced the end of the Scirocco on its website: “The Volkswagen Scirocco can no longer be personalised. Units already built can still be purchased,” the text reads. Fortunately, this means the car can still be acquired, as long as we are content with the units the brand still has in stock.

In fact, if we find a unit that suits our equipment needs, it could be the best moment to buy a Volkswagen Scirocco, since the company will offer the model with attractive discounts until stocks run out.

The truth is that the death of the Volkswagen Scirocco was foreseeable for some time. More than a year ago, the car stopped being offered in several of its versions and engines: the most radical variants in the range – the 220 CV GTS and the 280 CV R – were no longer available.
