The refreshed Tesla Model Y

It remains to be seen whether this new leak will be right about the launch date of the refreshed Model Y, but the margin for error is getting smaller because, sooner or later, it will definitely arrive.

The Tesla Model Y, the best-selling electric vehicle in the world last year, is about to receive a significant update which, according to a recent report, could be unveiled in just a few months. This refresh follows the steps of the recent update of the Model 3 that we already know, promising improvements in design, interior equipment and specifications with the aim of maintaining competitiveness in the market for this compact SUV.

The report we are referring to, published by the National Business Daily of China, indicates that the first quarter of 2025 could be the moment chosen by Tesla for the launch of this new Model Y. This information, according to the outlet itself, comes from an anonymous source close to Tesla.

If the leaked information is correct, the updated Model Y will come in two versions, one with five seats and another with seven. In this way, everything points to the seven-seat version, until now exclusive to the American market, potentially being available in China and Europe as well, probably towards the end of 2025.

Many of the changes to the Model Y are expected to follow the direction of what we have already seen on the Model 3. This would include a complete overhaul of the front and rear of the vehicle, new wheel designs and new colours. Inside, Tesla will eliminate the stalks behind the steering wheel, replacing them with buttons on the steering wheel, and will update the central infotainment screen. Additionally, there will also be a significant improvement in the level of interior finish, as well as in the precision of the vehicle’s assembly.

It is also worth highlighting that Tesla considerably softened the suspension on the refreshed Model 3, noticeably improving comfort on long journeys. The Model Y is expected to receive a similar suspension setup.

In any case, we must not forget that all of this is nothing more than a rumour that may ultimately not come to pass, or only partially so. The truth is that Model Y sales remain strong worldwide, so the American manufacturer is not really in a hurry to announce this refresh.
