The Renault Austral gives us a look at its interior... and it's going to surprise you

After showing us the first images of the Renault Austral, first in camouflage and then as a silhouette, the French brand keeps releasing details sparingly about the replacement for the Renault Kadjar, which will be presented this spring. And if the production model is close to what we can see in these first images, the dashboard design of the Austral is truly revolutionary when compared with what Renault has accustomed us to until now.

With the new 24.3-inch Open R screen

One of the main new features in the interior of the Renault Austral is the new Open R screen, debuted in the Renault Mégane E-TECH electric. In fact, it consists of two screens joined in an “L” shape: the instrument display in the classic position, and the multimedia system in a vertical layout, a characteristic feature of Renault. Altogether they add up to 24.3 inches of screen for an Renault Austral that will feature the most advanced connectivity solutions.

Thus, OpenR Link allows on-board integration of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, in addition to Google searches and the Google Maps browser. Renault boasts speed and ease of use, with its operation resembling a smartphone. The collaboration with Google Automotive Services has made it possible to design a screen with high brightness and no reflections, which allows the sun visor over the instrument area to be dispensed with.

But beyond the Open R screen, the Renault Austral boasts space, dynamism and quality. We will have to wait to verify it, but this first sketch could not be more suggestive: very fluid, clean and dynamic horizontal lines that connect with the tall door panels, a wrap-around effect… The storage compartments spread throughout the cabin total more than 30 litres of storage space, while the rear seats offer longitudinal seat adjustment and their backrests can be folded down from the boot at the push of a button.
